This is the diary of one of our clients – Great Britain Ultimate Frisbee athlete Ellie Hand. Click Here to read part one if you missed it last week.
Do you like repetitive exercises and lots of shouting?? No? Me neither! And that’s why I love training with Clapham personal trainer David Peterson. I’ve been training with him for 2 months now and not once have I been bored, or made to do 5000 crunches!
He seems to have a never ending stream of new and innovative exercises which we mix in with ones we do regularly. This week he taught me a new style of plank –you do it against a wall rather than on the floor and you hold your body in a sprint position. At first it doesn’t feel as hard as a conventional plank however once you’ve been told to ‘Tighten those abs, squeeze those glutes and drive into the wall’ you can really feel the burn!
It’s useful because it strengthens your muscles to hold the optimal sprinting technique position and so you will be able to hold your form for longer as you get tired –pretty handy when our matches last for 90 minutes! It makes perfect sense, I would just never have thought of it myself!
We also did some back squats –he has a cool padded bar so you can rack up the weight without bruising your shoulders! Which for a beginner like me, is ideal! I try and force myself to keep the correct posture, it’s hard but so good to feel your muscles working!
Finished up with rolling out some tight muscles and a protein shake on the way home (I found one which comes in a tin!)
Train hard, win easy!
Next week I am training with Carol Petersen
