After some time off our resident athlete is back into the swing of training.

This is difficult to write. I got cut from the GB squad a few weeks ago. I was very disappointed and for a while considered giving up the sport I love. However, I realised that in sport, you will always get knock-backs… whether they be injuries or missing out on selection. And sometimes the best course of action is to get back into it, find a new motivation and set a new goal.

David was great; he empathised completely and has really helped to stay positive. The last couple of weeks we have been working on barbell snatches, deadlifts, standing jumps and of course the dreaded prowler push! It’s all working towards being able to push the ground away harder and faster –the more force you can exert on the ground, the faster you will sprint. Which makes sense!

I played a tournament last weekend and had been having quite a bit of pain in my lower back. I had been trying to stretch it out but when I spoke to David he suggested that it could be due to having tight hip flexors. Pain in one area is apparently often caused by tightness in another. It’s kind of obvious but you don’t think of it until you chat to the experts.

Anyway, off to do some fitness –my press-ups need some work!
