Years ago the fitness industry became obsessed with something called the ‘fat burning zone’ – a place you could take your body into so that you effectively burned more fat during your workout. The reality is that there isn’t actually a ‘zone’ that helps you do this and the easiest way to get the biggest benefit from exercise is to focus on both low and high intensity workouts as well as interval training.
You also need to have an effective eating plan to ensure you are eating less calories and burning more.
Low Intensity Workouts
A swim or brisk walk – great if your body has been working out hard and you want a rest day but still want to get some exercise in. Make sure you get your heart rate up for your walk to qualify as ‘brisk’
Interval Training
Interval training is a great way to burn fat. You are set an exercise that you do at a high intensity rate for a set period (for example 30 seconds), and then you take it down to a lower intensity for a minute before ramping it up again and going hard at it for a 30 second period again.
An example of high intensity interval training would be to workout hard for 8 minutes and then slow down for 2 minutes before picking up the pace again for 8 minutes
